Import Team Leader / Customer Service Representative

Location:   Hanover, MD

Reports to:  International Operations Manager

Primary Functions:

  • To manage and administer the successful, cost-effective, and timely provision of international logistics services, to include US imports involving air, ocean, ground transportation, customs clearance, foreign to foreign shipments, and additional value-add activity.
  • To coordinate, track, verify and report regarding status of international transportation.
  • To communicate with all necessary parties accurately and in a timely manner, following through to final delivery.
  • To ensure productive, efficient, and timely communication amongst operations, sales team, providers, client vendors, and clients on an ongoing basis.
  • To provide high levels of customer service to all clients, and to instill same in all staff members.

Team Leader Activities:

  • Lead international import staff, to include ongoing review of and familiarity with daily activities and work flow, annual performance reviews, vacation schedules, training, and development.
  • Manage outsourced Customs Brokerage firms.
  • Manage daily billing flow to improve cash flow and minimize CSR involvement.
  • Participate in selection and hiring process of new staff members.
  • Assist IT with evaluating and implementing new technology within the team.

Related activities:

  • Gather, review and verify international import related documentation.
  • Maintain constant communication with team members and clients regarding shipment/entry status and progress.
  • Communicate with affiliates and agents abroad.
  • Communicate with air, ocean and land carriers.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in business/logistics preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory or management experience.
  • Demonstrated and verifiable experience handling international transportation via air, ocean, and ground.
  • Knowledge of Harmonized Tariff Schedule / Customs Regulations.
  • Knowledge of international quote and US entry process.
  • Proficiency in mathematics used in international commerce and trade.
  • Working knowledge of world geography and global air and ocean ports.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, while maintaining positive attitude, organization of work, and superior customer service.
  • Understanding of INCO terms.
  • Advanced computer literacy, to include proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet Explorer; and the ability to learn and utilize various in-house applications.
